About the Publisher

An 1830 lithograph of the village of Mühringen is featured on the cover of The Jewish Publication Society’s Spring 2001 Catalog. Emily Rose’s ancestors immigrated from Mühringen in 1857 to the American Midwest.

The Jewish Publication Society is the oldest publisher of Jewish literature in the English language. German Jews founded the nonprofit educational association in 1888. Its mission is to promote the dissemination of religious and secular works, in the United States and abroad, to all individuals and institutions interested in past and contemporary Jewish life.
